Oftentimes programmes fail because of lack of ownership, hence community participation requires community ownership, using the 3 A approach- awareness, advocacy & agency

Ensuring sustainability through community led participation

  • The 3 A approach requires :

- Engaging with Community Based organisations (CBOs) who understand the context and are able to reach and communicate with the community effectively.

- Creating awareness in the community

- Advocating for desired change led by community change agents

- Building agency among these community change agents to ensure sustainability

  • A bottoms-up grassroots approach will

- Ensure diversity of thoughts

- this requires having a multi-stakeholder and multi-disciplinary teams (consisting of all stakeholders- community, researchers, policymakers among others)
